One-on-One Time

Posted by Keilee Painter on

This last weekend, Mom & I drove 3 hours to a secluded place in Kansas where we had hardly any cell reception.

So much has been going on in our lives & we were both desperate to get away, pray, focus, & hear from God. That weekend we spent time together, watched "Pretty Woman"  (because that's a classy movie for a weekend away with God...😬) & we laughed alot BUT we also separated, cried, walked outside, sat by the lake, listened to worship music, wrote in our Prayer Journals, read books (I read Jennie Allen's 'Get Out Of Your Own Head'...definitley recommend it!) & read our Bibles.

One point I did the whole 'close your eyes, open the Bible & read wherever you land' move & Matthew 5:3-9 is what I got. I'll add it below but the part of "when you're at the end of your rope"...🙋‍♀️

This particular weekend I went head on with insecurity. Don't get me wrong, I know my worth but as hard as I try to remind myself of that, Satan throws back things said to me just as hard to get me down.

"Somebody may like your personality but they will never be attracted to you" - "Nobody really cares what you've done" - "Aren't you dissapointed in yourself?" - "Give him a 2nd chance because it's not like you have options"

So verse 5 saying "You're blessed when you're content with just who you are- no more, no less" that's my goal.

When insecurities get to me, I think it's important to stop & think about what I'm telling myself. Am I saying "I am...unlovable, annoying, insignificant, replacable etc." If that's what is in my head I need to stop & switch it to "I am... loved, valued, made in His image, forgiven, worthy etc".

I can't be content with who I am if I'm telling myself exactly what the enemy wants me to think.

I don't know what any of ya'll are going through, but what I do know is taking time to read your Bible (not just a devotional) can make such a difference! Let God speak to you. If you need to drive out to a lake, sit in your car & do it, go for it - If you need to sit somewhere quiet in the house with headphones on, do it (helpful tip: Hillsong has piano lullabyes that are perfect to listen to if you while reading to drown out other noises😉)

Get vulnerable when you pray, read the Bible and my gosh, He isn't going to leave you hanging!

Matthew 5:3-9 The Message (MSG)

“You’re blessed when you’re at the end of your rope. With less of you there is more of God and his rule.

“You’re blessed when you feel you’ve lost what is most dear to you. Only then can you be embraced by the One most dear to you.

“You’re blessed when you’re content with just who you are—no more, no less. That’s the moment you find yourselves proud owners of everything that can’t be bought.

“You’re blessed when you’ve worked up a good appetite for God. He’s food and drink in the best meal you’ll ever eat.

“You’re blessed when you care. At the moment of being ‘care-full,’ you find yourselves cared for.

“You’re blessed when you get your inside world—your mind and heart—put right. Then you can see God in the outside world.

“You’re blessed when you can show people how to cooperate instead of compete or fight. That’s when you discover who you really are, and your place in God’s family.
